About Wefugees
Wefugees is the world's largest online Q&A platform for refugees, asylum seekers, and the people supporting them. Since 2015, Wefugees has provided free, reliable, peer-to-peer and expert information on asylum, residence permits, work, housing, education, and daily life in Germany (and partly in Europe). Our answers are written and reviewed by experienced volunteers, lawyers, social workers, and people with lived experience.
The Role
We are looking for a Programmer (Pro Bono Specialist) to help us fix a few bugs and improve the technical backbone of the Wefugees Q&A platform. This is a hands-on, impact-driven role focused on stability, performance, and discoverability rather than greenfield development.
Responsibilities
- Fixing and improving existing bugs in our Q&A platform
- Supporting SEO, indexing, and search visibility (technical SEO, crawlability, performance)
- Improving platform stability and performance
- Supporting general platform maintenance and clean-up
- Advising on pragmatic technical improvements that help the platform scale sustainably
Requirements
- Solid experience with PHP and MySQL
- Familiarity with maintaining and improving existing codebases
- Basic to intermediate understanding of technical SEO and indexing
- Experience with cloud hosting environments (Azure experience is a plus, not a must)
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset
- Interest in social impact and digital public goods
